Q: Did you do yoga before you were pregnant? If so what style? Where?
A: I attended an Ashtanga Yoga class a few years ago when I lived in Brighton.

Q: What made you decide to start antenatal yoga?
A: Before becoming pregnant I used to run 10 miles a day but stopped when I became pregnant as I felt so tired and sick all the time. I’ve ended up gaining about 2 stone in weight and was starting to feel very stiff and unfit. I wanted to maintain some level of fitness and flexibility so I don’t have to work quite so hard the other side of pregnancy!

Q: How did you feel after your first class?
A: I felt really positive and calm. It struck me how much the breathing exercising are going to benefit the baby throughout my pregnancy and help me cope with labour.

Q: What’s your favourite pose/part of class?
A: I enjoy all of the poses where I am giving my muscles a thorough stretch.

Q: What’s your least favourite pose/part of class?
A: The pose where you stand on one foot and raise your arms in the air – I don’t know what has happened to my sense of balance since becoming pregnant!

Q: Has yoga helped you with any specific ailments/injuries during pregnancy?
A: My joints and muscles don’t feel quite so stiff.

Q: What motivates you to keep attending class?
A: The idea that I’m maintaining some of the strength in my body throughout my pregnancy and am taking some time out to properly relax and focus my mind.

Q: What would you tell someone who’s interested in pregnancy yoga classes?
A: You should give it a go whatever your level of fitness and flexibility as you can push yourself as little or as much as you like. You and your baby will still benefit the breathing exercises.
